Chests

Chests are the player's reward for clearing a room during crusades, among other things.

Overview

Chests usually drop coins and fervor, but may drop other things like food materials on special occasion. They may also be replaced with a pick between weapons or curses, or with a single relic. They are the bread and butter of crusade rewards, and come in 5 different forms: common chests, uncommon chests, rare chests, end of floor and boss chests. The common chests are a regular wooden chest with round top, the uncommon ones have a dull metallic outline with horns and an eye, the rare one are uncommon chests with a more vibrant gold color instead of the dull metallic color, and the boss chests are simply a bigger rare chest.

Drops

A chest can drop multiple different things, each rarity offering a different amount. Uncommon and rare chests may also drop an additional tarot card or necklace, along with their regular drops. The amounts are shown on the table below. A (+) means that the item is not a guaranteed drop. For fervor, as it is difficult to quantify, you'll instead get a representative amount of asterisks, the more there are, the more you get.

Clearing a room

When you clear a room, a chest will appear if it isn't replaced with a weapon pick or a relic. The chest will appear and fall to the ground, shortly after which it will open. Bodies of dead enemies and other bodies from miscellaneous sources in the room are automatically broken upon the chest opening. As such, if no chest spawns, to collect bones, you will have to manually break them. An additional chest appears at the end of a sub-floor. However, if you're looking for bones in a time limit, you could destroy things like body bags and crucified bodies before beating the room, saving you the effort and time of then destroying the individual bodies.
