Swordsman

From Cult of the Lamb Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Swordsman is a common melee cultist enemy and can be found in all biomes. They represent the common followers of the Bishops' cults and are guaranteed to be the first enemies the Lamb will fight whenever they enter a Follower Room.

The Scythesman, its stronger variant, will only be found in Anchordeep and Silk Cradle.

Description

The Swordsman wears a black hooded robe with golden trimming and a golden pentacle holding it together on their upper chest. They have red slanted eyes and can be assumed to be some kind of animal like the cultists of the Cult Of The Lamb due to the latter looking extremely similar to the former during rituals. Swordsmen are as tall as the Lamb, however appear to be taller because of their hoods. Ironically, despite being called a swordsman, they actually appear to be wielding a swordstaff instead.

The Scythesman wears a much more vibrant apparel, with a red hooded gold trimmed robe instead of a black one, along with a golden trimmed red fleece on top of that and lack the golden pentacle on their chest. They also wear a second red hood on top of their existing one, with the cross dyed gold instead of black and surrounded by a black pentagram. Instead of a swordstaff, they wield a scythe with a spike on the top of it.

Dialogues

In your first time visiting a Follower room that has a Follower held captive, the first wave of enemies will have only the Swordsmen and they have different dialogues depend on the biome:

  • Tutorial: Oh mighty Bishops of the Old Faith! We ask you to accept the sacrifice of this wretched soul - Hey! Who interrupts our ritual and trespasses on sacred ground?!
  • Darkwood: The worm, it is hungry. It feeds. It partakes of our flesh. But that is the price for safety. For that we gladly give it all we have.
  • Anura: Heket, please accept our sacrifice and bless us with fertile soils and bountiful harvest. Keep the famine at bay!
  • Anchordeep: We worship you, Kallamar, in the hope that you will find us worthy of good health and long lives.
  • Silk Cradle: Shamura, for your wisdom we make this offering. Knower of all, in you we seek the answer.

Behaviour

Normal

The swordsmen have a very simple fighting strategy: They taunt you, they charge at you and then they try to hit you.

A swordsman keeps their distance from the Lamb.

A swordsman dodgerolls behind the Lamb.

A scythesman swings their scythe at the Lamb twice.
A scythesman swings their scythe at the Lamb twice.

They will start by running in the Lamb's direction, stopping well outside of arm's reach and keeping their distance. They will taunt the Lamb in this state, waiting for the Lamb to do anything, before suddenly sprinting towards them with their swordstaff raised and swinging it once they are in range. Note that hitting them with any weapon other than the Hammer or the Gauntlets their third hit will absolutely not stop the Swordsman from hitting you. The Swordsman is, however, still one of the few enemies that can be stunned or knocked down in the place. The Hammer and the Gauntlets will knock them down, and curses will stun them for a few seconds, breaking them out of their attack animation. The Swordsman is also capable of dodgerolling like the Lamb and is also invincible during their animation, but they will rarely defend themselves in this fashion, preferring to keep distance with the Lamb or attacking them instead.

Variant

The Scythesman functions very much like like their normal counterpart, but will move faster, be less clear about what distance they keep from the Lamb, possess much more health and will attack twice instead of once.
