This is the story of Cult of the Lamb as we know it so far. This will have spoilers.

Pre-game

Long ago, the lands of the old faith were not ruled by 4 bishops, but instead by hundreds of gods. Many wielded crowns that not only symbolized their power to their followers, but seemed to be a source of it. The First Gods were once well known, and would give crowns to whomever they see as worthy. It is unknown what happened to the First Gods, but all that remains of them was their weapons, their tears, and their ichor. Even Haro does not know what happened to them. Only one skull of such a God can be found in Spore Grotto, where the Mushroomos would later be born.

Born under the First Gods, Clauneck, Kudaai, and Chemach are the keepers of Godly Tools, one of fate, one of weapons, and one of relics of past gods. They never seek godly power and find their roles fulfilling. However, Chemach eventually went mad and mutated, not to the surprise of her siblings, as Clauneck foresaw her decent into madness.

Things soon began to change afterwards. Gods began to come and go. Crowns being found, crowns being lost. Soon five crowns were to be discovered by five siblings, which would then seal the fate of many gods:

Leshy, Heket, Kallamar, Shamura, and Narinder.

4 of these beings represent the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse; Leshy, chaos, Heket, famine, Kallamar, pestilence, and (presumably) Shamura, war/conquest. Narinder represents death, the only constant among the 5 siblings. At some point, Shamura not wanting Narinder to be alone asked Forneus for her 2 sons, Aym and Baal who followed Narinder faithfully.

With Shamura's taste for war, they proceeded to purge the gods, claiming that they themselves to be the proper representation of the Old Faith. Many gods fell, many crowns disappeared, and many followers soon joined the Old Faith. The remaining gods were either killed or they renounce their power before the bishops reached them (something Haro possibly did). Thus, the Old Faith became the dominant religion of the lands, and there were no more Gods to challenge them.

While Narinder represented the only constant, he was the only one of the 5 who wanted change. Shamura blames themself for this, stating it was they that introduced the concept of change to Narinder in the first place which drove him mad, as change was a concept not meant for death. "Hapless Leshy , youngest of the five. T'was[sic] his eyes he lost. Temperamental Heket, with her throat cut neat. Cowardly Kallamar's ears, torn from his head. And Shamura, once the brightest of the five, 'till their skull was split. See no evil, speak naught, hear nothing and think none. The One Who Waits made it so." And so he did these horrible things. However, since they were powerful beings, Heket and Shamura did not die, and Leshy and Kallamar did not lose much blood. This is only represented in game with bandages on those places. The 4, enraged, created 4 chains, each bound to one of their lives, and chained Narinder, however Kallamar was afraid of the Red Crown, and was hesitant. The sons of Forneus stayed with Narinder, now called the One Who Waits.

Despite being in captivity, The One Who Waits (TOWW) began sending vessels with his Red Crown to kill the bishops and start a cult in his name, however, none of them could kill even a single bishop. However, Shamura (presumably) received a prophecy that a lamb would be the one who frees TOWW. The bishops began sacrificing all the lambs in the land. They had almost succeeded, with there being only one lamb left to be sacrificed...
